A major void will soon be filled on Ripon’s high street, with the opening of a Peacocks store anticipated for next month.

As previously reported by the Stray Ferret, the value fashion retailer has taken over premises in Fishergate formerly occupied by M&Co, which went into administration in December 2022.

The company, which sells men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, has been advertising vacancies on recruitment sites since last year and  is currently seeking to appoint an assistant manager and other staff ahead of a February opening.

Ripon is one of 20 towns and cities around the UK where Peacocks has taken over stores that had been part of the M&Co estate.

The opening will follow other positive movement on the city’s high street, including an ongoing major refurbishment of Halls of Ripon, which will create space for seven independent retailers at its Fishergate premises.

The upgrade is being carried out by Ripon-Based property and Investment company Sterne Properties Limited.

In November, the outdoor clothing and equipment specialist Trespass, opened in a prime location at Market Square East, that became vacant when Barclays Bank closed its Ripon Branch.
