Shell has taken over a Harrogate petrol station — even though it already has a site just a few hundred feet down the road.
The former Co-op petrol station, on Ripon Road, closed for several days this week for refurbishment after the oil giant took over the forecourt.
Although the petrol is now provided by Shell, the shop on site will remain as a Co-op.
Some readers may be wondering why Shell has opened a second garage just seconds away from one it already operates on the opposite side of the road near GC Motors. A spokesperson said:
The spokesperson also told the Stray Ferret the opening was part of a wider plan but added the firm “cannot confirm details of sites that are not yet operational”.
The existing garage will remain under Shell and trade as normal, they added.
The new Shell garage is open today.
