103-year-old veteran attends Knaresborough remembrance service

As the crowds gathered in Knaresborough for yesterday’s remembrance service (November 10), a 103-year-old veteran was present to mark the occasion.

John, a Polish veteran who was at the battle of Monte Cassino in 1944, placed a wreath front and centre on the memorial as part of the service.

In Knaresborough the event was marked by a parade at 9:30am from St John's Church which proceed from to the war memorial in the castle grounds.

At 11am, there was a two-minute silence, followed by a service of remembrance at the memorial.

Veterans and members of the Royal British Legion were present. It also marked the 25th anniversary for Paul Darley as the standard bearer.

There was also a ceremony at the Working Men’s Club at noon for members who were killed during the Second World War.
