Every Monday, the Stray Ferret publishes a round-up of sports action in the Harrogate district, focusing on the first team results of local amateur and semi-professional sports clubs.

Here's what happened during the week of February 9 to 15.

1. Knaresborough Town lose in County Cup semi-final

Knaresborough Town were knocked out of the County Cup semi-final by the holders Route One Rovers on Wednesday. The NCEL Division One side beat Knarsborough 4-1 to progress to their second successive final. Route One Rovers are ninth in Division One, the league below Knaresborough Town. But their secret weapon, Zak Khan, proved to be the difference on the night, scoring four goals. Khan has scored 56 goals in all competitions this season, over 25 more than anyone in both Division One and the Premier Division.

2. Boroughbridge through in League Cup

Boroughbridge AFC triumphed in a local derby to progress to the next round of the League Cup on Saturday. Beating local rivals Knaresborough Town reserves 2-1 at home, The Bridge advance into the competition’s last 16. Josh Teasdale and Harry Burland both got on the scoresheet for the home side, while Alex Charlesworth was named player of the match. Boroughbridge will face Bradford side Oxenhope Recreation in the next round.

3. Harrogate Town Women hand out thrashing in County Cup

Harrogate Town Women staged a County Cup thrashing on Sunday as they beat Wyke Wanderers 12-1, despite having no game in almost a month. Having gone 1-0 down after 11 minutes, Harrogate showed no mercy in turning the tide. Lauren Doyle scored another hattrick, while Katie Taylor, Hannah Sturdy (x2), Kate Whiley (x2), Connie Parkin and Jess Crosby (x2) also got on the scoresheet. Town will face holders Leeds United Women in the quarter-finals.

4. Harrogate Railway Ladies into County Cup quarter finals

Harrogate Railway joined their neighbours in the quarter-finals of the Women’s County Cup on Sunday after beating Sherburn White Rose 5-3 away. The two teams are in the same league, with Sherburn three places and 12 points ahead of The Rail. But despite the points disparity, Sherburn are yet to beat Railway this season. The two sides played out a 2-2 draw in the league in November. Harrogate Railway will face Silsden in the quarter-finals.

5. Harrogate RUFC beaten by league leaders

Harrogate Rugby Club were beaten 44-36 by league leaders Heath on Saturday, suffering a further blow to their promotion hopes. Despite scoring six tries and earning a bonus point, The Aces fall out of the play-off places, usurped by Ilkley, who beat Cleckheaton. Harrogate are only one point behind their Yorkshire rivals, though, and will face them in the next fixture.
