While you might be able to buy strawberries in the supermarket, somehow they taste even better when you pick them yourself. The perfect activity on a sunny July day, whether you wander the farms alone or take the whole family, there are lots of Pick Your Own locations across North Yorkshire. Here are five near Harrogate – offering extras from tractor rides to a bouncy castle.
With year-round experiences alongside a traditional farm, this is the perfect season for picking strawberries fresh from the field. A wide range of strawberries are grown, ensuring that there are always some available throughout the season, running through June and July. The farm sells ice-cream for you to take home to enjoy alongside your pickings, and while visiting you can also experience the petting zoo, animal barn and bouncy castle.

Kemps Farm offers raised berries for easier picking.
Hunt beneath the leaves for strawberries on this gorgeous farm – and don’t worry about pre-booking, just turn up when you fancy a sweet treat. Alongside strawberries, the farm also has rhubarb, blackcurrants, and the first of their redcurrants and white currants available to pick. Given the nature of farming, the Pick Your Own experience only runs when there are enough berries to pick, so the farm occasionally closes to allow the fruit to grow back. Make sure you check their website or social media to see if there is a current crop ready to pick.
