The A59 is closed at Kex Gill yet again due to a landslip.

North Yorkshire Council issued a statement on social media this morning saying:

The A59 at Kex Gill is closed this morning because of a landslip overnight from the embankment. Our engineers are on site.

The Stray Ferret asked the council for further information about the incident. A spokesperson said:

The road is closed because of debris from the embankment, following significant rain overnight. We’re assessing the extent of the issue this morning.

The A59 is the main road linking Harrogate and Skipton.

A £68.9 million road realignment scheme is currently taking place due to the history of landslips in the area. The Department for Transport is paying £56.1 million and the remaining £12.7 million is being spent by the council.

The road closed from February to June last year due to a sudden landslip.

The council denied claims its work on the realignment had caused the earth movement.
