Almost 300 runners took part in the sell-out Ripon 10-mile race on Sunday (May 10).
A total of 283 competitors, almost twice the number that took part last year, completed the scenic multi-terrain course, which started and finished at Hell Wath Nature Reserve, and winded around Studley Royal.
The race, which started in 2005, is one of Ripon Runners’ main events of the year.
Race director Paul Brazier said:
It’s been a terrific day, and we’re delighted to have seen such an uptick in numbers over the last few years. The Ripon 10 is now part of the Yorkshire Tenners series, which incorporates 10k and 10-mile races organised by six North Yorkshire running clubs. The series is designed to increase entries to our club races and give runners a new challenge – and judging by this year’s turnout it appears to be working.

Chris Shannon and Laura Thompson
Chris Shannon of the online running club Lonely Goat crossed the line first in 58.08. The first female finisher was City of York Athletic Club’s Laura Thompson in a time of 1.06.54. The first Ripon Runner club member to finish was third-placed Hugh Watkin in 59.56.
Another notable competitor was Reece Mellor from County Durham, who completed the race carrying an extremely hefty backpack to raise money for the mental health and wellbeing charity Spare10ForBen.
The club donated a portion of entry fees to the National Trust and Ripon City Panthers Junior Football Club.
