Male suicide prevention charity Andy’s Man Club is to open another Harrogate district branch.

The charity, which offers free peer-to-peer sessions at locations nationwide, has hundreds of support groups that meet on Monday evenings.

Groups have been set up at Harrogate College and Ripon Bowling Club in recent years, and the charity is now headed for Knaresborough.

The first Andy's Man Club group formed in Halifax in 2016 following the death of Andrew Roberts, who took his own life aged just 23.

Andy’s mum and brother-in-law, who were unaware of his suffering, set up the group in the wake of his death to ensure other men can speak freely about their mental health.

The charity prides itself on offering a judgement-free, non-clinical environment for men over the age of 18.

The volunteer-led organisation aims to de-stigmatise mental health and combat male suicide, which is the biggest killer of men under the age of 50.

It now helps more than 4,500 men every week.

The Knaresborough branch will hold weekly sessions at Knaresborough Town Football Club from February 24. It will meet on Mondays from 7pm to 9pm, excluding bank holidays.

The Stray Ferret contacted Andy’s Man Club about the new opening, but we had not received a response at the time of publication.
