Knaresborough Christmas Market has been given the go-ahead to take place a week later than planned.

Storm Darragh, which is predicted to bring gusts of winds up to 60mph tomorrow afternoon, forced organiser Hazel Haas to postpone this weekend's scheduled event.

After a frenzied 24 hours of negotiations, Ms Haas confirmed North Yorkshire Council had now consented to the two-day event happening on December 14 and 15.

She told the Stray Ferret:

We are on for December 14 and 15. The council has just confirmed to me 10 minutes ago that it will hire us the stalls and we can use our own crews and transport to put them up.

We had 66 stalls lined up for this weekend and we currently have 57 now for the following weekend so I suspect we will be full and we are looking forward to a cracking weekend. What's more, the weather forecast is good!

Knaresborough's annual Christmas market is bigger than the Harrogate Christmas Fayre, which has about 40 stalls.

Organised by Knaresborough & District Chamber, Knaresborough Lions and Rotary in Knaresborough, and run by volunteers, all profits go to local causes.

It finishes with a fireworks finale set against the backdrop of the Nidd Gorge and this will now take place on Sunday afternoon on December 15.
