Over £2,500 has been raised so far to help combat homelessness in Harrogate after the success of the town's Big Harrogate Sleepout.

Hosted at Harrogate Rugby Club, the event saw 30 people from local businesses and the community endure a night under the stars to raise awareness and funds for Harrogate Homeless Project.

The donation, which is equivalent to funding someone on the streets with 60 nights’ accommodation at the project's hostel, will go directly towards maintaining the charity's initiatives.

Local businesses, including Harrogate Spring Water, Belzona, Raworths and Titan Wealth Management participated in the inaugural sleepout.

Richard Cooper, chief executive of the project, said:

The money raised will directly support our initiatives, from emergency accommodations to hostel services. It's inspiring to see the unity among businesses and residents in addressing this issue.

This event has been a great success, and we are able to announce the Big Sleepout date for next year, Thursday 2nd October 2025. We are determined to make the next event even bigger and better so that we can do more to help homeless people, rough sleepers and those at risk of homelessness.

Wig service launched at Harrogate salon

Harrogate hairdresser Joseph Ferraro has launched a service to help people suffering with hair loss.

For the first time, Mr Ferraro will be stocking wigs and hairpieces and offering clients a fitting and after-care service, which he hopes will help people across the Harrogate district.

He said:

We have had a number of clients over the years who have come to us suffering from hair loss for a number of reasons.

This could be having undergone chemotherapy during cancer treatment, or sufferers of alopecia or just general hair loss/thinning due to a number of other reasons.

It has had such an impact on the way they see themselves, and their confidence. I wanted to be able to help out and by launching this new service at the salon, I hope it will help people who are having tough times in their lives.

Tockwith wedding business wins national award

Ambience Venue Styling North Yorkshire in Tockwith has won the Venue Stylist award for Yorkshire and Lincolnshire at the North of England wedding awards.

The awards were voted for by the couples who’s weddings companies have styled in the last year.

Owner Lydia Chandler said:

I bought the business in April 2021 as we were coming out of lockdown, everyone thought I was mad because weddings couldn’t even happen at this point but I knew they’d come back and be bigger and better than ever.

Three-and-a-half years on, I have an incredible team of four and we style weddings and events throughout the North Yorkshire area. We are recommended suppliers at local venues such as Rudding Park, Grantley Hall and Thirsk Lodge Barns and provide décor, floristry and signage whilst trying to ease as much stress and overwhelm that we can for our lovely couples.
