Two fire crews were called to Boroughbridge after several boats went up in flames yesterday (August 21).
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s incident log says firefighters from Harrogate and Knaresborough were called to Valuation Lane at 5.16pm.
However, a spokesperson for the fire service told the Stray Ferret they believe the incident happened at Boroughbridge Marina, which is on Marina Lane.
The fire was accidental, the spokesperson said, adding it is believed to have been caused by a fuel leak.
It affected four canal boats, two of which sank.
Firefighters secured the boats to prevent them from floating and the flames spreading to other boats.
The incident summary adds fire crews then extinguished the fire using "two hose reel jets, two breathing apparatus, a 45 jet, a portable pump and ceiling hooks".
