A car caught fire after crashing into a sign in Knaresborough last night.

It was one of several call-outs on a busy night for local firefighters, which also saw a person trapped under a car in Harrogate and a flooded home in Ripon.

According to North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, volunteer firefighters from Knaresborough were summoned to the single vehicle crash at 9.43pm last night.

The incident report said:

The vehicle had impacted a road sign and come to rest on its roof, with the fire starting in the engine bay. Crews extinguished the fire using a hose reel jet and made the scene safe. The incident was left in the hands of police.

It added all occupants were out of the vehicle uninjured when the fire service arrived.

Earlier, Harrogate firefighters were summoned to help a person who had slipped and got their leg stuck under a stationary vehicle at 7.10pm.

The report said the incident happened in Harrogate, and added:

Crews used edraulic spreaders and wedges to lift the vehicle and release the person’s leg. The crews then placed the person on a spinal board to allow them to be carried into a building to shelter from weather conditions until the ambulance arrived.

At three minutes before 1am, Ripon firefighters were called to a home to help a attended a homeowner with flooding.

The report added:

The leak was caused by a faulty tap in an upstairs bathroom which was leaking through the ceiling. The crew isolated the water to the tap and also isolated the electricity to the downstairs ceiling lights as the water was affecting one of the fixtures.
