The cost of rebranding council-owned leisure facilities has been revealed.

North Yorkshire Council released the figure in response to a freedom of information request submitted by the Stray Ferret.

The Harrogate district facilities – including three leisure centres which recently underwent multi-million-pound makeovers – rebranded yesterday (December 1).

It came after the council last year announced it was set to bring all of its leisure services, including Brimhams Active, back in-house under a single operation.

As part of the move, it has launched its Active North Yorkshire brand, which the Harrogate district facilities now fall under.

The Stray Ferret asked the council how much it has cost the taxpayer to fund the rebrand – including a breakdown of costs for new signage and uniform.

The authority said the estimated total cost to transition all 10 Harrogate district facilities is £41,000.

This includes new uniforms, signage and an app. The council added:

Uniforms do have to be replaced due to everyday wear and tear, and therefore replacements would have been bought at some stage anyway.

The council said it has spent £9,554 on new signs for all Brimhams Active sites excluding Selby and Tadcaster. But this figure is "still in progress", it added at the time.

The Stray Ferret also asked the council how much it spent on rebranding the Selby and Tadcaster facilities, which changed on September 1.

The council spent a total of £35,485 on the two sites. £24,425 was spent on new signs and £11,060 was put towards new unforms.

Brimhams Active, which has ceasde to exist as part of the change, was set up by the now-defunct Harrogate Borough Council in 2021.

You can read an analysis on what impact Brimhams Active has had on the area here.

The Stray Ferret asked North Yorkshire Council how much the former borough council spent on setting up Brimhams Active, as well as its other council-owned leisure facilities.

The answer was £297,760.84.

The rebrand has affected the following Harrogate district sites:

  • Harrogate Leisure and Wellbeing Hub
  • Knaresborough Leisure and Wellbeing Hub
  • Nidderdale Leisure and Wellbeing Hub
  • Ripon (Jack Laugher) Leisure and Wellbeing Hub
  • Starbeck Swimming Pool
  • Fairfax Community Wellbeing Hub
  • Jennyfield Styan Community Wellbeing Hub
  • Stockwell Community Wellbeing Hub
  • Turkish Baths Harrogate
  • Little Explorers Day Nursery
