Plans to develop another dog park in a village near Boroughbridge have been approved.

The applicants, listed as Mr and Mrs Swiers, sought North Yorkshire Council’s approval to convert agricultural land in Cundall into a dog walking and activity area.

The land at Low Farm sits adjacent to an existing dog park, known as Cundall Dog Park, making the development the second of its kind in the village.

The existing two-acre dog park provides toys and agility equipment, as well as a wooded area and a fenced-off space to exercise dogs.

According to planning documents, Mr and Mrs Swiers wanted to create the second dog park on a neighbouring field due to increasing demand.

“The existing dog park has developed a large customer base with 3,500 bookings over the last 12 months”, plans say, adding the applicants have received requests from clients to open a second site.

Netting will be erected between the two fields to avoid dogs interacting, and the parks will also have separate parking areas.

Plans say the applicants believe the fencing would also mitigate any noise concerns and, so far, the owners have not received any noise complaints from nearby residents under its existing noise management plan.

The second dog park would also allow the owners to temporarily close one of the parks when necessary, such as when they become overly wet or muddy, without having to cease operations entirely.

Planning documents add the applicants are active livestock farmers and believe dog parks prevent people from walking their dogs through livestock fields.

This helps to reduce the number of livestock attacks and people being trampled by cattle.

The application adds:

In particular, the applicant is aware that many reactive, nervous and rescue dogs use the park which provides a safe facility for them to be exercised off the lead. The sessions are all private, booked via the website which helps to keep noise levels to a minimum.

The owners anticipate there will be no more than three cars in the designated parking area at once, and an additional two parking spaces will be created.

The council approved the application subject to conditions on July 24.
