The small parking area will be closed at the end of this month.

North Yorkshire Council is set to close a small parking area in Harrogate at the end of this month.

The car park, situated in front of the Harrogate Indoor Bowling Club private car park, is used by customers of the council’s horticultural nursery and dogwalkers visiting the Pinewoods.

Notices put up at the site last week say cars parked there are at risk of being locked in after 4pm, adding the area will be closed for parking at the end of this month.

The Stray Ferret asked the council why it has decided to block off the car park.

The council’s corporate director of environment, Karl Battersby, said:

People have used the car park when walking their dogs and, on several occasions, have been locked in after operating hours despite very clear signs in place.

Following these issues, along with complaints from dogwalkers, we have removed parking. Dog walkers and visitors to the businesses can use the free parking area at Irongate Field, which is a few hundred metres away.

The council’s notice advises nursery customers to follow signs for another car park, while people visiting the Pinewoods should instead park at Irongate Field on Harlow Moor Road.
