The Post Office has remained tight-lipped about its plans to restore a service in Knaresborough.
The town’s only Post Office closed suddenly last month when the building was repossessed by property development firm Depho Estates Ltd, which owns the site on High Street.
It happened a day after the Post Office announced it was opening a consultation on whether to relocate the service into the nearby Lloyds Pharmacy.
The consultation ended yesterday, which prompted the Stray Ferret to seek an update.
We asked how many people had responded to the consultation and what they wanted to see happen. We also enquired about the timeframe, as many people are desperate to see the service restored. Knaresborough & District Chamber branded the ongoing loss of the Post Office "diabolical" and called for the matter to be resolved as quickly as possible this month
A Post Office spokesperson said in a statement “we will soon consider all the feedback received before reaching a decision”.
They added:
We are working hard to restore Post Office services to Knaresborough as soon as possible. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience that the unplanned closure of the branch maybe causing.
In the interim there is Knaresborough Banking Hub at 15 Kirkgate, HG5 8AD, where personal and business customers can pay in cash and cheques and withdraw cash and do bill payments, utility payments and top ups.
Starbeck Post Office is the nearest Post Office for other types of mail (Royal Mail, Parcelforce and buy in branch, collection and drop off services for Evri and DPD), home shopping returns, foreign currency, vehicle licence renewal, money transfers, plus personal and business banking.
Knaresborough Post Office was run by Nottingham-based VPS PVT Ltd, which according to Companies House documents entered voluntary liquidation on June 13.
It owed £253,000 to HMRC as well as £124,000 to other creditors.
Depho Estates has questioned whether the company should be allowed to operate again in the town. We asked the Post Office whether this was an option but its response did not address this.
