North Yorkshire Police is appealing for witnesses after a man attacked a dog in Boroughbridge.
A statement from the force today (December 29) said the incident happened on the canal towpath by the lock near Milby Island at around 10.30am on Saturday.
According to the statement, the dog was kicked in the head and knocked unconscious, suffering a laceration above the eye which required a trip to the vet.
The owner said the suspect was aggressive and the attack was "unprovoked". They added the perpetrator walked away afterwards.
The police statement said:
We are appealing for any witnesses to the incident or information which may help identify the suspect.
He is described as white, aged in his 40s, around 6ft 1in, athletic build, and wearing long boots.
The suspect was walking a large, black, fluffy dog.
