Fatface in Ripon

Fatface’s store in Ripon is to close.

Signs in the window of the clothing, footwear and accessories shop on the Marshall Way retail park say its last day of trading will be August 11.

Fatface opened in Ripon in 2009 as part of the new retail park development.

Its closure raises questions about whether the new car park rules introduced by Tesco when it succeeded Booths in November last year are deterring customers.

Ripon City Council wrote to Tesco head office in March urging it to return to the Booths system of allowing motorists to park for free for two hours provided they spent £5 in-store. They could also pay to extend their stay to three hours and parking was free after 6pm.

Fatface, which was acquired by Next in 2023, has about 180 UK stores, including outlets in Harrogate, Northallerton and York.

A FatFace spokesperson said:

We can confirm that our Ripon store will close on 11 August 2026. We’re focusing on supporting our store colleagues at this time and, where possible, looking at redeployment opportunities. We’d like to thank all customers who have shopped with us for their support over the years.

The company declined to comment when asked if Tesco's parking arrangements had affected trade.
