Find out here which district roads will be mended next
More than £7 million has been earmarked for 212 highways schemes across the Harrogate district over the coming year, a council report reveals.
The works, which range from “patching” potholes to total resurfacing, are all included in the 2025-26 Highways Capital Annual Programme, which will be put before the environment executive of North Yorkshire Council for approval next Friday (February 28).
The most costly item on the list of projects is the resurfacing of a stretch of the A59 near Hopperton, just east of the A1(M), which is budgeted at £429,000.
Harrogate
The next most expensive project is the resurfacing of King’s Road in Harrogate, at £395,000. Just around the corner, the resurfacing of Coppice Drive is also on the list, costed at £190,000.
In Bilton, Woodfield Road is earmarked for two resurfacing projects, with a total budget of £340,000.
Crossings at Oatlands and on Wetherby Road are budgeted at £150,000 each, and the resurfacing of the pavement on Yew Tree Lane is costed at £135,297.
Other works in Harrogate include patching and “surface dressing” of several roads around both the Christ Church area and the Jennyfields estate.
Ripon
In Ripon, resurfacing work is listed for Firby Road, Victoria Grove and Moss Arcade, as well as on the pavements of Kirkby Road and Dallamires Lane. In Littlethorpe, £100,000 is assigned for drainage work on the A59 Harrogate Road.
The works include patching, "surface dressing" and resurfacing.
Killinghall
Several projects are planned for Killinghall, including the resurfacing of Chain Bar Lane between the A59 and Hampsthwaite (£180,000), restructuring work following a landslip on the A59 (£120,000), and the resurfacing of the pavement on Otley Road (£161,684).
Other works
More minor works are listed for Aldfield, Allerton Park, Angram, Baldersby, Beckwithshaw, Bickerton, Bridge Hewick, Cattal, Copt Hewick, Darley, Dishforth, Farnley, Grantley, Hampsthwaite, Huby, Hunsingore, Hutton Conyers, Kettlesing, Kirk Hammerton, Knaresborough, Leathley, Long Marston, Marton-le-Moor, Masham, Ramsgill, Ripley, Risplith, Scotton, Sharrow, Spofforth, Studley Roger, Tockwith, Whixley and Wormald Green.
A further £100,000 is budgeted for unspecified cycle schemes around the district.
The report prepared ahead of next week’s environment executive meeting notes that highways schemes are ranked based on the risk of them not being delivered within the annual programme.
Currently, schemes worth a total of £1.6 million are ranked as either amber or red, meaning their chance of not being delivered within the year is between 50% and 75%.
