Fire service reveals further details on major Harrogate blaze
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service has revealed further details on a major fire in Harrogate yesterday.
Crews from Harrogate, Knaresborough, Ripon and Wetherby were called to a barn off Ripon Road at 3.20pm yesterday.
The fire was visible from New Park roundabout and smoke was also reported as being seen in the Bilton area.
In an update issued by the fire service, it said crews remained at the scene for “several hours” to extinguish the blaze.
The statement added that the fire involved a barn measuring around 20×30 metres. Officers had to revisit the site overnight due to a “flare up”.
The fire service added:
Crews remained at the scene for several hours to extinguish the fire and damp down. Farm equipment was used to help remove some of the debris to allow the fire crews better access to extinguish hotspots.
Crews revisited overnight due to a flare up of the fire under roofing debris. They extinguished the flare up and left the incident with the owner to continue to check over night for further flare ups.

Officers from North Yorkshire Police were also in attendance at the incident.
A fire officer is due to revisit the scene today (August 20) to begin an investigation into the incident.
