Firefighters responded to two separate incidents of people in the River Nidd over the Christmas period.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s incident log said crews from Harrogate and Knaresborough were called to Knaresborough just after 6pm last night (December 26) following reports of someone in the river. It did not provide a specific location, but the Nidd runs through the town.

Police officers were also at the scene and were encouraging the person to get out of the water when firefighters arrived, the log added.

It also said:

Crews stood by until the individual made their way out of the water and was left in the care of police and ambulance crews.

Christmas Eve incident

Fire crews were also called to Knaresborough at 6.13pm on Christmas Eve.

The log said Harrogate and Knaresborough firefighters were called to the river, alongside specialist water units from Ripon, Richmond and Selby.

When the firefighters got to the scene, the person had got out of the river and was being looked after by paramedics.

No further information was released.
