A still from Mr Jones' Instagram video about Mr Cameron's visit.

Foreign Secretary David Cameron has visited Harrogate to support Conservative Andrew Jones in this week’s general election.

Lord Cameron, who was Prime Minister from 2010 to 2016, said Mr Jones was “an incredibly hard working Conservative who has delivered great things for this constituency”.

He added:

We see two operating theatres being built in the hospital. We see Harrogate College being completely rebuilt. He’s hard working. He’s done great things for Harrogate. Please put him back in Parliament again for the next Parliament.

Polls are suggesting a Labour victory nationally and Liberal Democrat success in Harrogate and Knaresborough. Forecasting website Electoral Calculus today rates Lib Dem local candidate Tom Gordon’s chances of success at 82%.

Lord Cameron said if the polls were true "it will be even more important to have a strong Conservative voice here, standing up for Harrogate. Someone who lives here, someone who knows this community, knows the people, knows the issues and can fight for you.”

With polls predicting a huge Labour landslide, the Conservatives are trying to rally support by warning people of the need to avoid ‘Starmergeddon’ — a Labour majority so large there is no effective opposition.

The Stray Ferret was not invited to attend Mr Cameron’s visit. Mr Jones posted a video of the two men near the war memorial in Harrogate on his Instagram page this morning.
