A new independent bar and restaurant on Harrogate’s Cold Bath Road has applied to extend the hours during which it can sell alcohol.
The Drunken Piglet opened in the former Lancaster’s bakery site shortly before Christmas.
The premises licence currently permits alcohol to be sold from 8am until 10pm. Drunken Piglet director Joanna McMurdo has applied to North Yorkshire Council’s to extend the hours to 11pm seven days a week. The bar has also applied to close at 2am on New Year’s Eve.
The council’s statutory licensing sub-committee will meet on Friday (January 30) to decide whether to grant the application.
A report by the council’s senior licensing enforcement officer Wan Malachi said Ms McMurdo initially applied to extend the licence until midnight but agreed to amend this after the council’s environmental protection department raised concerns about public nuisance.
Gemma Demaline, an environmental protection officer at the council, also recommended introducing conditions, including banning customers from using the outdoor area for eating and drinking after 9pm and prohibiting music being played outside.
The council also received two noise complaints from residents. One said:
“It is difficult for me to get to bed and wake up at a decent hour. We look forward to 10.30pm when the last of the customers go home.”
Mr Malachi’s report said the sub-committee had three options: to grant the 11pm licence, to grant the licence with conditions or to reject the application.
