North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service has today confirmed the cause of a major blaze to a Harrogate barn was deliberate.
Crews from Harrogate, Knaresborough, Ripon and Wetherby were called to Knox Hill Farm, which measures around 20m x 30m, off Ripon Road at 3.20pm on Monday (August 19).
Billowing black smoke was visible from the New Park roundabout and in the Bilton area.
Firefighters remained at the scene for several hours to extinguish the blaze but were called out to the barn again during the night after a “flare up” under roofing debris.
A fire investigation officer returned to the scene yesterday (August 20) to establish a cause.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed to the Stray Ferret that the cause of the fire is believed to be delibrate.
The fire service advised anyone wishing to pass on information anonymously to contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
North Yorkshire Police, which confirmed the exact location of the barn, also told the Stray Ferret officers are investigating the cause of the fire.
