Storm Éowyn is set to bring gusts of up to 60mph to the Harrogate district later this week.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for wind across most of the UK on Friday.

There is also a yellow warning in place for Saturday. The picture appears to be changing frequently but, at the time of publication, Saturday’s warning is not set to impact the local area.

The Met Office said the storm is expected to bring very strong winds and widespread disruption, which could affect power and travel.

Harrogate, Knaresborough and Ripon will see gusts of up to 58mph on Friday, whilst 55mph gusts will hit Boroughbridge.

The forecast looks more severe in the rural areas of the district, as gusts will reach 60mph in Pateley Bridge and Masham.

The warning comes after more than a week of heavy snow and ice across the district earlier this month.

The adverse conditions led to school closures and travel disruptions, as well as people falling on the ice and calling for North Yorkshire Council to take action.
