Harrogate in Bloom winners announced
The winners of this year’s Harrogate in Bloom competition were announced at an awards ceremony last night (September 19).
The competition recognises floral displays across the town, which are awarded to individuals, groups and businesses.
Entries were judged over the summer and prizes were handed out at The West Park Hotel at yesterday’s event.
Oatlands Junior School took home the Hammond Mann trophy – also known as the school’s prize – which recognises gardens created by teachers and pupils.
The school was also awarded the Harrogate in Bloom president’s award.
The theme for the children’s category this year was peace. It was St Peter’s Primary School pupil, Tabitha Daglish, who came out on top. The judges praised her design, which centred around tulips, snow drops and daises.
Piglet in Bed, on James Street, took home first prize for the floral shop window competition, which is held in partnership with Harrogate Business Improvement District (BID). The company was awarded the McCrindle trophy for its efforts.
BID manager, Matthew Chapman, said “so many excellent entries” were submitted as part of the competition, adding:
It added to our town’s already historic floral heritage.
As the BID, we’re always keen to promote our town as the fantastic floral destination it’s known as, so to get businesses involved through competitions such as this is key for us.
The displays help to make our town a blaze of colour during the summer months – and even help to drive footfall and spend into Harrogate’s businesses.

The Yorkshire Hotel won the Crowther trophy, which is handed to the best floral display at a local hotel or guesthouse.
The Low Harrogate Crown Green Bowling Club took home the prize for best communal grounds, while the Fat Badger won the parks department rose shield.
The Betty’s Teapot trophy, awarded to the best residential community, was claimed by Swan Court. Pine Street Allotments won the Edgar Scholey shield, while Peter Walker – who owns a plot at the Pine Street site – took home the Harrogate Borough Council trophy.
Rossett Nature Reserve was handed the Harrogate District Chamber of Commerce trophy for its decorative displays and wide representation of wildlife.
Mr Chapman added:
I’d like to thank all businesses and groups for taking part and congratulate all of those who claimed prizes during this year’s Harrogate in Bloom awards.
I’m looking forward to seeing more dazzling displays in 2025.
