Harrogate micropub The Little Ale House plans to expand into a neighbouring unit. 

The Cheltenham Crescent craft ale site, which opened in 2016, has submitted a change of use application to North Yorkshire Council.

The application proposes to take on unit 9, which is immediately next to Little Ale House, and is currently occupied by Jennifer Parker Hair.

According to planning documents, owners Danni and Richard Park seek approval to take on only the ground floor of unit 9 and “that does not include the hallway”.

In addition, the husband-and-wife-team also hope to make internal alterations to the building. 

Both units share an entrance, and a proposed site plan suggests the applicants will create an opening from unit 7 to unit 9 to adjoin the spaces, as well as expand an existing opening in unit 9.

Little information about the proposed expansion has been revealed, but the plans state two new full-time staff members would be taken on as part of the development.

The Stray Ferret contacted The Little Ale House for comment but we did not receive a response at the time of publication. 

York plans

The move comes shortly after the owners applied to take on a unit in York.

The Stray Ferret reported on the plans at the time, which proposed to open another site on one of the city’s premier streets, Stonegate.

The application, which has not yet been decided on, sought approval to open a unit formerly occupied by Bettys.

Harrogate Tipple, which operates in Ripley, occupies the unit above but Mr Park said both Harrogate businesses would work together should the application be approved.

He told the Stray Ferret in June:

Mr Park said it was the “right time” to open in York, but plans were “still in the early stages”.

North Yorkshire Council will deliberate on the most recent application at a later date.
