Harrogate Harriers' champions Davina Ellis and Luke Shacklock.

Athletes from Harrogate Harriers won the men’s and women’s categories at the Knaresborough Crag Rat Run yesterday (September 22).

A total of 248 runners took part in the five-mile event, which is the main race organised each year by local running club Knaresborough Striders.

Luke Shacklock beat last year’s winner Mark Holden, of Dewbsury Road Runners, by eight seconds to finish first in a time of 27 minutes and 34 seconds.

Jack Brierley of Nidd Valley Road Runners, which had the largest contingent of any club in the event, was third. Four runners representing Nidd Valley placed in the top 10.

Craig Macauley was home club Knaresborough Striders’ highest finisher in sixth.

Harrogate Harrier Davina Ellis was the first female home in a time of 31 minutes and 22 seconds. Harriers’ athletes dominated the women’s top 10, with Issy Rowe third, Jessica Goodlife fourth and Lucy Oldroyd sixth.

The mixed terrain route started and finished at Knaresborough Cricket Club on Aspin Lane. Funds from the event raised money for Saint Michael’s Hospice in Harrogate and the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
