A Harrogate running club won a silver medal in a national tournament at the weekend.

Three teams from Harrogate Harriers qualified for the England Athletics Relay Championships at Birmingham on Sunday (August 17).

Eddie Joseph, George Atkinson, Jake Lowe and Simon Bordewich took silver behind Cambridge Harriers in the under-17 boys 4x400 metre relay race.

The boys recorded a team best time of 3:27.47.

Also representing Harrogate Harriers at the tournament were two under-15 girls’ teams.

The 4x300 metre relay team of Mia Hartley, twins Isabelle and Madeleine Perrow, and Martha Meadley placed 8th overall.

The 4x100 metre relay team of Freya Burdon, Madeleine Perrow, Daisy Searby, and Shona Colvin finished 19th to rank in the top 20 teams nationally.

Jon Ireland, club development officer for Harrogate Harriers said:

To get one team to the national final is brilliant, but to have three teams competing and to come away with a silver medal performance is outstanding. This is testament to the hard work put in by both athletes and coaches who have helped to make this happen. A special thank-you to Mark Bryant and Drew Burdin for all their help in organising and managing this.
