Harrogate school extension approved
A Harrogate primary school has been granted planning permission to build a single-story extension to its nursery.
Brackenfield School, on Duchy Road submitted plans to North Yorkshire Council this year.
The independent school teaches two to 11-year-olds and has 158 pupils divided between 113 in the main school and 45 in nursery.
The extension will enable it to cater for nine more nursery places.
Plans for the nursery extension
Planning documents on behalf of the school said:
The increase in capacity is designed to allow our families greater flexibility in the sessions they choose for their children.
Four members of the public objected, citing concerns about issues including extra traffic and parking outside the school.
But council case officer Josh Arthur's report said these were mainly "civil matters and not planning matters".
He concluded:
The proposal represents an acceptable extension to the existing building which safeguards the character and appearance of the area along with neighbouring residential amenity and highway safety. The proposal therefore accords with the provisions of the development plan and there are no other material considerations in this instance that warrant setting aside local planning policies.
