Harrogate Town has applied to vary its premises licence to enable the club to serve alcohol at the ground until 12.30am.
The club can currently serve drinks until midnight from Monday to Saturday and until 11.30pm on Sundays.
North Yorkshire Council’s statutory licensing sub-committee will decide whether to approve the application, which was submitted by club operations director David Riley, when it meets on Friday next week (August 16).
Town’s Wetherby Road ground is situated close to residential streets and the plans attracted six objections from nearby residents, who cited concerns such as “drunk and disorderly behaviour” and extra noise.
Documents on the council’s website reveal Sarah Barry, the club chief executive, responded to the points raised by saying the move was unlikely to see any changes to usage and was being done to bring all four bars under one licence.
Ms Barry said the bars would only be open on match days and the club would not use the facilities for private hire.
She wrote to one objector:
The times have been advised taking into account evening games and in the event of cup games or delayed start times when there may be extra time added on or even penalties.
The likelihood of the bars being open late is extremely unlikely and is to cover us as stated.
Wan Malachi, the council’s senior licensing enforcement officer who wrote the report, said the sub-committee had three options: to grant the licence, to grant the licence with conditions or to reject the application in whole or in part.
