Harrogate football star Rachel Daly has revealed she is engaged to be married.

Daly, 32, posted a picture of her wearing a ring with Aston Villa teammate Sarah Mayling, alongside the message: "It’s giving forever. Easiest YES!!!"

She announced the news to her 463,000 followers on instagram in a post on Friday.

Daly retired from international football in April but continues to play as a striker for Aston Villa in the Women's Super League.

She played every game of UEFA Euro 2022, which England won, as well as in the final of last year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Mayling, 27, is an Aston Villa defender and appeared to be the one to pop the question.

Some famous faces were among those congratulating the happy couple. Former England captain and Chelsea defender Millie Bright said:

My heart is so full. My bestie's getting married to the most beautiful person inside and out. Love you both, here’s to planning our weddings bestie.

Alex Greenwood, Chloe Kelly, Beth Mead and Lauren Hemp also congratulated Daly and Mayling.

The post has already amassed more than 82,000 likes and hundreds of comments.

Mayling shared the photos with her own Instagram followers, saying:

Best dog walk ever.

Daly, a former Rossett School pupil, won a total of 84 senior caps for England and scored 16 goals.

She won the Women’s Super League Golden Boot for scoring the most goals in 2022/23 and finished 10th in the 2023 Ballon d’Or — which means she was rated the 10th best female player in the world.

Daly began her professional career at Leeds United before climbing the international ladder at the FIFA Women’s U17 World Cup in 2008, in New Zealand.

She later moved to Lincoln Ladies in 2010, followed by a stint in the American National Women's Soccer League playing for Houston Dash.

Daly made her senior England debut in 2016, when she scored against Serbia.

Killinghall Nomads hs named its club café Nomad’s Daly Brew after her and her former school invited her to open its new pitches last year.
