Taylor Wimpey has revealed it plans to build 350 homes on the edge of Harrogate.

The housebuilder said today (August 22) it was “exploring proposals” to build the homes on land off Penny Pot Lane in Killinghall.

A representative is expected to attend a meeting of Harrogate Town Council to discuss the project on September 17. The meeting is open to members of the public.

A Taylor Wimpey spokesperson said:

We are exploring proposals for new homes and green open space off Penny Pot Lane in Killinghall, Harrogate. We will be holding a public consultation event in the coming weeks, to give local residents the opportunity to view and comment on our emerging plans.

Taylor Wimpey has yet to submit a formal planning application to North Yorkshire Council, but it has applied to the local authority for a screening opinion to see if the development’s impact on the environment would be significant enough to require an Environmental Impact Assessment.

The proposals include up to 350 new homes, including 40% affordable housing, and green open space. Details of a public consultation event are expected to be announced within weeks.

The precise location has yet to be revealed. But the agenda for a town council planning committee meeting on Wednesday next week gives a clue.

It says “a representative of Taylor Wimpey will attend the next meeting of the planning committee to carry out a pre-application consultation on proposals for up to 350 new homes on a site off Penny Pot Lane and Oaker Bank.”

Oaker Bank and Penny Pot Lane has experienced significant new housing developments in recent years.
