The Ripley Castle Estate, which has been owned by the same family for more than 700 years, has been put up for sale.

The estate today released a statement on behalf of the current owners, Sir Thomas and Lady Ingilby, which said they have received “full support” from their family.

The statement gave little detail about the move, but added the family will continue to live nearby and “focus on other interests”.

It added:

Most of the estate's enterprises will continue to trade as normal and our valued clients, employees and tenants will be advised at the earliest opportunity of any changes to this plan.

The estate, which includes the castle, grounds, shop, coffee shops and the Boar’s Head pub, has been listed with Carter Jonas.

Prospective buyers are advised to contact mark.granger@carterjonas.co.uk for more information. A price has not yet been revealed.
