Pateley Bridge man Keith Tordoff is to run as an independent parliamentary candidate for Skipton and Ripon.
Mr Tordoff, who stood to become the first mayor of York and North Yorkshire last month, announced his decision today.
Today is the deadline for candidates to put forward their names for election on July 4.
Mr Tordoff also ran as an independent in the 2021 North Yorkshire police, fire and crime commissioner election.
A press release by Mr Tordoff announcing his decision used the strapline 'let’s make July 4 Independence Day in Skipton and Ripon'.
He added:
I am standing as an independent candidate for Skipton and Ripon in the General Election as I am passionate about the area where I live.
As an MP, I would bring to the constituency, communities and businesses a wealth of experience with a proven track record of delivering on the ground.
Mr Tordoff, who is an ex-West Yorkshire Police detective, runs a gallery on Pateley Bridge High Street.
His family also formerly owned the Oldest Sweet Shop in the World. He added:
My background and commitment to represent the people of the area has been unwavering, which I would be honoured to do as their MP.
