Repair work on the A59 at Kex Gill.

North Yorkshire Council is to hold a public drop-in session next week about ongoing repairs to the A59 at Kex Gill.

The event will be held at St Thomas a Becket Church in Hampsthwaite.

In an update about the work yesterday, the council said repair work was “progressing well”, adding 85 metres of steel sheets — known as piles — have been installed to create a structural wall.

The statement added:

Work is now underway to reconstruct the carriageway behind the newly installed sheet piles, along with drainage works and the relocation of telephone cables.

We are doing all we can to complete the repair as quickly and safely as possible and still anticipate the road reopening before the end of June.

The drop-in session will provide an opportunity for people to find out more about the work, which began after a landslip in February, as well as about the £68.9 million road realignment work nearby.

The road, which is the main route between Harrogate and Skipton, has been closed since February 2 and has led to a lengthy diversion through Ilkley.

The closure has since cost the council £1.8 million.

The Hampsthwaite drop-in session will take place on Tuesday, June 11, from 6pm to 8pm.

There is also a session on June 19, at Bolton Abbey Village Hall, from 6pm to 8pm.
