Knaresborough community hub awarded £121,000 from mayor’s high street fund
A Knaresborough community hub has been awarded £121,488 from the Mayor of York and North Yorkshire’s £10 million high street fund.
Labour mayor David Skaith launched the fund in February to help “boost the resilience” of local high streets.
A total of 19 projects across York and North Yorkshire have received £1.7 million in the second round of funding from the scheme this week.
Chain Lane Community Hub was the only project in Harrogate and Knaresborough to receive financial support.
The hub was awarded £121,488 for a "strategic initiative to invest in and diversify Knaresborough’s free events programme".
David Skaith, Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, said:
High streets are constantly changing, but when we back our high streets, they will thrive and become hubs for our communities again.
That’s why I am delighted to invest £1.7 million in these 19 projects. They are all led by local people, ranging from regeneration to exciting festivals.
These are big ideas that will inject new life into communities across the region. This is what my Vibrant and Sustainable High Streets Fund is here to deliver.
The move comes as James Farrar, chief executive of York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority, said he would "like to see more ambitious bids coming from Harrogate" for the high street fund during a speech to business leaders in the town on Monday.
Out of 18 projects in the first round of funding in May, four were in the Harrogate district with two of those going to Harrogate Business Improvement District.
Funding for the projects has been allocated from the mayoral investment fund, which is worth £540 million over 30 years.
The high street fund spans over four years.
