Harrogate Town’s George Thomson has signed a new one-year deal at the club.

The new contract will see the midfielder stay at Town until the end of the 2026/27 season.

Thomson, who has made 335 appearances and scored more than 50 goals for the club, said he was delighted to sign the new deal.

He said:

I’m delighted to be sorted before pre-season starts.

It’s nice to get it sorted. It’s always nice when it’s all done and you don’t have to think about it. Obviously, it’s been a different summer. It’s been a while since I’ve been out of contract in the summer, so it’s been a bit different.

The 34-year-old was a key player in Harrogate’s promotions to the National League and Football League in 2018 and 2020 respectively, and was also a member of our FA Trophy-winning side in 2021.

Lloyd Kerry, Town’s head of recruitment, said:

He’s obviously a legend at the club. A proper model pro. I think it's important now, obviously, with his injury, that he can really have a good crack at it.

I think he'll come out fighting and I think he'll be keen to get back playing and play a big part next season.

It's going to be his tenth season next year for the club and he's been really loyal to the club. And I think, like I say, he set the standards every day in training. And to have his leadership qualities around the group is really important.

He's been an unbelievable player for this club, so hopefully, he can get back playing, get the games in, and get to the heights we know he can get to.
