An injured man and his dog were rescued on Timble Moor yesterday (January 12).

Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association was called to Lippersley Pike, on the edge of the moor.

The association said on social media the man had been walking his dog when he sustained an ankle injury and was unable to continue.

The volunteer rescuers brought a stretcher and medical supplies and warmed him up. They also moved his dog to a portable shelter off the moor, the post said.

It added:

A team medic made an assessment of his injury, and the gentleman was carried by stretcher, off the moor. The deep, slushy snow made progress quite hard but a large, fit, team made short work of a long-distance carry with a combination of lifting and sledging the stretcher. His dog made effortless progress through the deep snow and was a delight to look after!

It was dark by the time the rescuers reached the road, where the man was assessed by paramedics.

The association wished the man a speedy recovery, and added:

If his dog needs any exercise during his convalescence, there will be no shortage of volunteers!
