A 21-year-old man and a teenager have appeared in court in connection with an incident in Ripon where a teenage boy was allegedly run over by a car and attacked with a Taser gun.
Nixon Newton-Hayes and his teenage co-accused appeared at York Magistrates’ Court today (March 11).
Mr Newton-Hayes, of Bondgate, Ripon, is charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possessing a weapon designed or adapted for the discharge of an electric shock, namely a Taser.
His co-defendant, a youth who cannot be named for legal reasons, is charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving and inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent.
The two defendants were arrested following an incident on King Edward Road at about 8pm on Sunday, March 9.
Magistrates sent the case to York Crown Court where the defendants will appear on April 14 for a plea-and-trial-preparation hearing.
Mr Newton-Hayes was remanded in custody until then. The youth was granted bail.
The youth they are alleged to have injured cannot be named for legal reasons.
