A man has been arrested after a car was destroyed by a fire in Harrogate town centre yesterday (November 18).
Harrogate firefighters were called to reports of a car on fire on Victoria Avenue at around 4.30am.
They used breathing apparatus, a hose reel and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the blaze, and later said the cause was believed to have been an engine fault.
North Yorkshire Police has now told the Stray Ferret a 41-year-old from Leeds was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving at the scene at 5.05am.
He was taken into custody and later charged with the offence, police said.
The man has been released on bail to appear at Harrogate Magistrates Court on December 5.
The car was completely gutted by the flames.
The Stray Ferret went to the scene of the burned-out car, which had been totally gutted by the flames.
It was cordoned off by police and there was a strong smell of fumes coming from the car.
