A man has been handed a lengthy driving ban and fined £5,000 after drink-driving in Harrogate.

Connor Salisbury, 23, appeared before Harrogate Magistrates Court on Thursday (April 2) where he confirmed his name, date of birth and address.

Salisbury, who gave an address in Cumbria, admitted one count of drink-driving on Skipton Road in Harrogate on March 11 this year.

Alison Whiteley, prosecuting, told the court that police had been informed of a disturbance in the area on the evening of the offence.

Ms Whiteley said on the way to the address, officers came across a Mercedes C class, which was been driven by Salisbury, which was “veering over white lines’ and driving slow.

Police pulled over the 23-year-old at the former Texaco garage on Skipton Road.

Salisbury recorded 99 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath — nearly three times the legal limit.

Michelle Stewart, defending, told the court that the defendant was of previous good character and had never been before the courts before.

Ms Stewart said Salisbury had taken to the road after falling out with people at the address he was lodging at on Grange Avenue.

Magistrates told Salisbury that while he had no previous convictions and had not been before the court before, he still recorded nearly three times the legal drink-drive limit.

The 23-year-old was banned from driving for 24 months and fined £5,685.
