Man fined after assault at Ripon nightclub
A man has been fined after an assault in a Ripon nightclub.
Adam Jacques, of Middleton Quernhow, appeared before Harrogate Magistrates Court on Thursday (June 11) where he spoke to confirm his name, date of birth and address.
Jacques, 30, admitted assaulting a named victim on April 25 this year in Defacto nightclub in Ripon. He also pleaded guilty to possessing cocaine.
Sarah Tyrer, prosecuting, said the victim had been out in the city with a group of friends on the night of the incident.
Ms Tyrer said one of the victim’s friends had an altercation with Jacques in a pub, but “things calmed down” by the time they left.
The court heard that the group went to the Defacto nightclub on North Street at around 2am.
Ms Tyrer said the victim saw Jacques in the club, but “it seemed to be okay”.
However, the court heard that at 3.30am the victim saw the 30-year-old walking towards him on the dancefloor.
Ms Tyrer said:
He sees him [Jacques] walking towards him and gets punched in the side of the throat. It left no injury and people intervened. The defendant was told to leave by bouncers.
The court heard that police were called and Jacques was arrested outside the club.
Police searched him and found a “small bag of white powder”, the prosecution said.
Ms Tyrer said that Jacques told officers that he did not remember the incident and did not know the victim.
She added that the victim was left “frustrated” after the assault. She said:
He said that you should not be allowed to get away with punching random people.
Ismael Uddin, defending, said Jacques had pleaded guilty to the charges at the first opportunity.
Mr Uddin said that “no lasting injuries” were caused by the assault and that the defendant had no similar convictions.
The defence added that the pair had seen each other since the incident and “put this behind them”.
Magistrates fined Jacques £583 for the assault and ordered him to pay the victim £50 in compensation.
He was also ordered to pay a victims’ surcharge of £237 and £85 in court costs.
Magistrates also ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the cocaine.
