A man has been jailed for using threatening words or behaviour in a village near Ripon.
Wayne Johnston was sentenced at York Magistrates Court yesterday (September 2) after admitting one offence of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress.
Johnston, of Brooklands Lane in Seacroft, changed his plea to guilty on August 5.
According to court documents, Johnston used threating, abusive or insulting words or disorderly behaviour towards a named woman in Markington.
Johnston intended to – and did – cause the woman harassment, alarm or distress by committing the offence on August 21, 2024.
The 33-year-old, who was jailed just two days before his birthday, was sentenced to 26 weeks behind bars.
Court documents say the “persistent” incident was so serious only a custodial sentence can be justified.
