A man has been sentenced for stealing a bike in Harrogate.
Nathan McGowan, 32, appeared at York Magistrates Court yesterday (February 3) for sentencing after admitting one count of theft from a shop, one count of pedal bike theft and one count of failing to surrender to court bail at the appointed time.
According to court documents, McGowan stole a £20 bottle of whiskey from Waitrose on Harrogate’s Station Parade on June 6 last year.
He then stole a bicycle belonging to a named woman in Harrogate on December 19.
McGowan also failed to attend Harrogate Magistrates Court last Friday (January 30) as required, having been released on bail from York Magistrates Court on January 15.
McGowan - whose address is listed as both Cheltenham Mount in Harrogate and no fixed abode but of the Ripon area – admitted the thefts on December 20 last year.
He pleaded guilty to the failing to surrender charge during yesterday's hearing.
He was handed a 12-month community order, during which he must complete up to 30 rehabilitation activity days.
McGowan was also ordered to pay £20 in compensation.
