A man was sentenced on Friday (July 11) for possessing class A drugs at a property in Harrogate.
Simon Fox, of Hollin Gate in Otley, pleaded guilty at Harrogate Magistrates Court to possessing the controlled drug diamorphine.
Chimwemwe Chabwera, prosecuting, told the court police received reports of Fox “coming and going” at an address on Beech Close in Harrogate on March 12.
The property was suspected to be involved with drug dealing, Ms Chabwera said.
When the police arrived, Fox, 31, was at the apartment but told officers he did not live there.
The court heard police searched him and found drugs in his trouser pocket, before Fox told them he is a drug user.
Ms Chabwera said officers then searched the property and found 13 wraps of diamorphine – heroin – inside.
Fox declined to comment when interviewed by the police.
Ms Kaser, defending, told the magistrates Fox suffers from a “number of mental health problems”, including autism and ADHD.
She said the drugs found were for Fox’s own personal use, as his ADHD “severely affects” his life.
He is currently signed off from work, his defence added.
Fox has several previous convictions on his record but none of them are drug related.
The defendant was ordered to pay a total of £253, comprising a £120 fine, a £48 surcharge and £85 in prosecution costs.
