A man has been sentenced for stalking in Harrogate.

Andrew McColl, of St Robert's Mews, appeared before Harrogate Magistrates Court on Friday (June 5) after admitting a charge of stalking without fear, alarm and distress.

McColl, 67, committed the offence between September 8 and September 20 last year when he turned up at the named victim’s address uninvited on three occasions and sent unwanted messages to them, including a hand-delivered letter.

Magistrates sentenced the 67-year-old to a 12-month community order, which included 20 rehabilitation activity days.

He was also ordered to remain at his home address between the hours of 8pm and 7am as part of an eight-week curfew.

McColl was subjected to a 12-month restraining order and ordered not to contact the named victim for any reason.

Magistrates also ordered that he pay a £114 victims’ surcharge and £85 in court costs.
