A business meeting is to be held in Knaresborough to learn more about a project which aims to help revitalise the town’s high street.
Held at The Mitre pub, the event encourages people to find out more about a project with not-for-profit shop campaign group Totally Locally.
The move comes as the Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, David Skaith, awarded £39,000 in funding towards a project aimed at creating sustainable market towns as part of his high street fund.
The project, which is a collaboration between the grassroots high street group Totally Locally and the Knaresborough Business Collective, is set to include Knaresborough.
It aims to “boost North Yorkshire market towns by increasing footfall, supporting local businesses and supply chains”.
A spokesperson for Knaresborough Business Collective said the scheme was "in its early stages" and the meeting would enable people to discuss ideas for Knaresborough and the Totally Locally campaign.
Meanwhile, a statement on the Totally Locally website said:
Rural market towns are often overlooked when everyone is talking bout regenerating high streets, but these are the places where community is strong, but resources can be tight, so innovation and ‘just getting on and doing it‘ are key. This is exactly the approach we recommend.
With funding from North Yorkshire Mayor David Skaith’s Vibrant and Sustainable High Street Fund, we’ll be working alongside the good people of Knaresborough, Pickering and Malton/Norton on a pilot scheme to build a framework for other towns in the region. It’s big thinking for small towns.
The meeting in Knaresborough will be held from 6pm on Tuesday, June 10.
