The awards will be presented at Ripon Cathedral

The work of volunteers involved in many aspects of city life will be celebrated and recognised at a ceremony in Ripon Cathedral next month.

The third St Wilfrid’s Stars awards will be presented on October 24 and nominations will remain open until September 30. Further details can be obtained by clicking here.

Simon Hewitt, a director of event organisers Ripon Together, said:

Local sports clubs, the library, care homes, our arts and music, our events including the St Wilfrid’s Procession, our museums and many other bodies and activities all rely on volunteers.

We all know many people who enrich our lives and the city. All those people should be recognised for what they do for others. We want to celebrate everyone – and that means we need nominations, this month.

He added:

There is barely a person in Ripon who does not benefit from the work of volunteers and this is our chance to recognise what they do.

Mr Hewitt pointed out:

Those nominated in one of the categories are invited to a reception in the cathedral and have their names displayed there for some weeks afterwards. They are also honoured by knitted stars suspended from the cathedral’s roof, courtesy of the Ripon Community Poppy project.

The categories are:

  •  Business
  •  Community
  • Community organisation
  •  Culture
  • Sports and activity clubs
  • Tourism
  • Environment
  • Individual young person
  •  Young people’s group
  • Individual supporter of youth

The judging panel will also choose a Volunteer of the Year.
