North Yorkshire Police's Alverton Court headquarters.

A North Yorkshire police officer is to face an internal hearing for gross misconduct after allegedly sending a photo of his penis to a colleague.

PC James Spencer is accused of sending the image while off duty on September 10 last year.

Chief Constable Tim Forber will chair the hearing at North Yorkshire Police's Alverton Court headquarters in Northallerton on August 1.

A notice of the hearing was posted on the force's disclosure log today. It says:

On 10 September 2023 whilst off duty you sent an unsolicited offensive image of yourself, namely an image of your penis, to PC A.

The above conduct breached the standards of professional behaviour relating to discreditable conduct and authority respect and courtesy which individually and/or cumulatively amounts to gross misconduct.

The notice added parts of the hearing may be held in private 'to protect sensitive and confidential information' and that the chief constable has the discretion to impose reporting restrictions.

The hearing is the latest in a recent spate of North Yorkshire Police officers being suspended or facing charges.

Just last week another officer was banned from the force after a misconduct hearing was held into allegations he sexually assaulted a woman while on duty.

It was also revealed earlier this year that two more officers had been suspended on full pay.
